Services of Worship
Morning WorshipMorning Worship is held in the Cathedral each Sunday at 10.30am, during which the Sunday School also meets and shares in the first part of the Service. A Welcome Area is set close to the Main (South) Door where visitors may make themselves known or seek assistance. Tea and Coffee are served in the Cathedral hall after the Service, to which visitors are especially welcome. The following facilities are also provided each Sunday at the 10.30am Service:
Family ServiceAfter the Sunday School term closes on the first Sunday in June, a Family Service is held during the summer months within the Choir of the Cathedral at 9.15am. This half-hour Service is of an informal nature and offers the opportunity for parents and children to worship together while still being free thereafter to enjoy the rest of the day. Evening ServicesOccasional Evening Services are held throughout the year, as planned by the Worship Group. These Services are different and varied, seeking to draw upon traditions and styles of worship from the wider Church. Holy CommunionThe Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated on the last Sundays of February, May and October, at 10.30am and 3.30pm. The common cup and fermented wine are used at these Services. A joint Evening Service of Communion is held in St Blane's church at 6.30pm on these same days, using individual cups and unfermented wine. A short, informal celebration of Communion is held within the Choir of the Cathedral after the Morning Service on the last Sunday of all other months and on Easter Day. The Lord's Table is held open to all who wish to receive and all are welcome to share the sacrament with us. Sacrament of BaptismThe Sacrament of Baptism is normally administered on one Sunday of the month by mutual arrangement between the Minister and the family concerned. Baptisms usually take place within the first part of the Service, but in exceptional cases a private Baptism can be arranged. The Minister is always happy to discuss matters of Baptism with those who are not members of the Church, without obligation on either side. MarriageThe Minister is always happy to discuss matters of Marriage with those who are not members of the Church, without obligation on either side. An approach should be made to the Minister before other arrangements are made in order to ascertain whether the Cathedral is available on the day required. Funeral ServicesIn the event of a bereavement, it can be of great assistance if the Minister is contacted immediately by the next of kin so that help and support may be offered. Funeral Services can be held within the Cathedral followed by a commital at a cemetery or crematorium. |
