Trebles Choir Recruitment

We are hoping to recruit new members for the Trebles Choir to begin this August. Matthew Beetschen is especially keen to hear from parents of boys and girls who will be starting Primary 4 or 5 this year. Please telephone him on 01786-445158, or contact any choir member. The Trebles meet on a Monday (4.45pm - 6.00pm), Thursday (6.45pm - 8.15pm) and of course Sunday at 9.25am.

The Trebles Choir consists of boys and girls aged between 8 and 13. We practice on a Monday (4.45pm - 6.00pm) and on a Thursday with the adults (6.45pm - 8.15pm). The Trebles sing at the regular Sunday morning service in the Cathedral during term-time and there is voluntary attendance at Christmas and Easter Day services. There are also occasional special services and concerts, broadcasts, tours and social events.

Visits to the theatre, theme parks and other non-musical excursions are regular features of the Trebles Choir. Carol singing on Christmas Eve at Gleneagles Hotel is an annual highlight!

At a time when there is perhaps less time available for singing in schools, choirs such as ours provide a unique opportunity for potentially gifted children.

Quite apart from musical training, the experience of belonging to a choir also entails elements of responsibility and - above all - teamwork.

It is probably true to say that those who sang in a choir when they were young will cite this as being one of the most formative experiences of their youth.

Following the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) training scheme - see here for details - the children learn about voice production and music reading, and work towards gaining badges - the colour of the ribbon denoting the stage which they have reached.

Members of the Trebles Choir have attended RSCM courses in York and Durham Cathedrals and two have previously reached the semi-finals of the BBC Chorister of the Year competition.

On a lighter note, the Trebles devise and perform a Summer Concert for charity each year. Previously we performed songs from Oliver! and Les Miserables. This year's concert included "Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat".

Auditions

Our lively Trebles Choir is currently looking for new members, particularly boys and girls currently in Primary 4 or 5. We are not looking for musical genius, but rather for enthusiastic children with a good musical ear.

For more information about the Trebles Choir, or to arrange a simple audition, please contact the Choirmaster.
